St Mary’s College is thrilled to offer Kilikiti as a new sport in 2025! We invite community support to help our students take part in this cultural experience.
Kilikiti Game Overview
- Teams: 12 players per team. Mixed teams include 6 boys and 6 girls.
- Innings: 50 balls (paolo) or 25 minutes per team; games total 120 balls.
- Scoring: 1 run for a boundary, 2 for over the boundary. Pitching off the malae (pitch) gives the batting team 1 run.
- Bowling: Bowlers must stay behind the wicket. In mixed teams, boys bowl to boys, and girls can bowl or roll (fa’atolotolo) to girls.
- Getting Out (Malu): Includes mulumu (stumped), sapo (direct catch), se’e (slip catch), puni ‘olo (LBW), or losing control of the bat. Runners must use their feet (not bats) to touch wickets and must run on the third ball. Pā tasi (one-bounce catches on the pitch) are out if the ball lands on the pitch.
- Extras: Each team has a faiaoga (hype person with a whistle). Respect for the vā (social connection) is shown with a coin toss and post-game thanks (fa’afetai).
Kilikiti is fast-paced, culturally rich, and guarenteed a day full of fun!
