Tēnā koutou e ngā ākonga! Nau mai, kake mai ki tō tātou Kapa Haka. Tīhei mauri ora!
Kapa Haka is one of the most significant aspects of Māori education, providing a powerful platform for rangatahi to express their identity, culture, and pride. It deepens connections to te ao Māori and supports inclusivity, giving students of all backgrounds the opportunity to learn tikanga, strengthen memory and coordination, and develop physical stamina.
Ngā Maioha O Te Rangikauia
Ngā Maioha O Te Rangikauia is the combined Kapa Haka group of St Mary’s College, St Catherine’s College and St Patrick’s College.
We meet regularly to prepare and strengthen our kapa haka, and we work especially hard in the lead up to the regional competition that takes place every second year. At noho marae, we learn waiata, haka, and refine kapa haka fundamentals. Noho marae also provides us with a very special opportunity to connect and strengthen our sense of whanaungatanga.
Attending the regional competition is always a highlight for our group, as students lay down their challenges before an admiring and critical audience of peers, parents, whānau, and judges.
To support our mahi, we hold fundraisers (such as hangi) which engage our wider community and through which we feel great support.
