Ki o Rahi is a dynamic and fast-paced game played between two teams, Kīoma and Taniwha, on a large circular field. The game is played in either four quarters or two halves of a set time, with teams alternating roles at halftime or quarter-time.
- Kīoma: This team scores points by touching the Pou (boundary markers) with the Kī (ball) to earn potential points. They then run through Te Roto and place the Kī in the Pāwero zone to convert their touches into points. Kīoma also defend against Taniwha's attempts to score.
- Taniwha: This team scores by throwing the Kī to hit the Tupu (central target). They must navigate Kīoma's Kaitiaki (guardians), who protect the Tupu. Depending on the variation being played, Taniwha can stop Kīoma by ripping tags in designated areas.
In Term 1, 2025 St Mary’s entered two teams in the Senior one-day tournament run by College Sport Wellington. These were a Girls team and also a mixed team in collaboration with St Patrick’s College Town, called “The Saints".
